2.0 Duratec Engine
The 2.0L Duratec 20 I-4 is engineered with dual overhead cams activating four
valves per cylinder. For all its responsiveness, the Duratec 20 can go a long
way with its maximum EPA-estimated 35 Hwy rating.* There's also the Duratec 20E
offered in states that adopt California emissions standards, qualifying Focus as
a Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (PZEV).** With both Duratec 20 and 20E
versions, a 5-speed manual is standard, with a 4-speed automatic available as an
option.
*EPA-estimated 24 City/35 Hwy mpg with 5-speed manual transmission. Actual
mileage will vary.
**Standard on SE and SES models in CA, MA, ME, NY, and VT; available on retail
orders in AZ, CT, NH, NJ, NV, OR, PA and RI.
Sport-Tuned Exhaust
A lot of people who call themselves true driving enthusiasts will settle for
nothing less than the real hands-on feel of a smooth- and quick-shifting manual
gearbox. For them, there's the sporty 2009 Focus SES Coupe with a 143-horsepower
2.0L Duratec 20 I4 engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and sport-tuned
exhaust. What's more, that extra performance comes with no sacrifice in fuel
economy.*
*24 City/35 Hwy mpg with the 5-speed manual transmission.
4.2 Final Drive Ratio
The principle is: the higher the final drive ratio, the greater the
acceleration. So Ford engineers gave drivers of the Focus SES Coupe with 2.0L
Duratec 20 I4 and available 4-speed automatic transmission a higher 4.2 final
drive ratio for quicker off-the-line acceleration. And the amazing thing is,
they delivered this extra punch with no loss in fuel economy.*
*EPA estimated 24 City/33 Hwy mpg with 4-speed automatic transmission.
Performance Tuned Suspension
Focus is engineered with a rigid body structure that allows the enhanced
suspension components to sharpen steering and handling characteristics while
providing ride quality. This combination of stiff body structure and
performance-tuned suspension results in a feel of the road that is solid as well
as comfortable. That describes the standard suspension. Now comes the Focus SES
Coupe equipped with a rear as well as front stabilizer bar among the components
comprising the enhanced European suspension system.
17" Wheels
Those stylish 17" premium painted dark chrome aluminum wheels on the high-end
Focus SES Coupe ride on low-profile P215\45R performance tires. They combine
with the enhanced performance-tuned suspension system to deliver tighter
handling on the corners.
Braking Performance
The Focus braking system features 10.8-inch vented discs up front and 8.0-inch
drums in the rear. The smooth and straight stopping action of Anti-lock Brakes
with Traction Control, available as an option on all models, now features a
state-of-the-art Electronic Stability Control System.
Fun and Efficient
Focus gets up to 35 miles per gallon with its 2.0L Duratec 16-valve engine.*
Ford engineers made sure it's not only efficient, but also a lot of fun to
drive, by giving it 140 eager-to-run horses. A Partial Zero Emissions version of
this engine, available in California emissions states, is as clean as some
hybrids. What's more, Focus has a refined European-inspired suspension that
makes steering and handling more responsive. And there's an available handling
package that combines 16-inch wheels, sporty Pirelli tires, plus stabilizer bars
to enhance ride quality.† Good, clean fun. That's Focus.
*EPA-estimated 24 city/35 hwy with manual transmission.
†Enhanced handling suspension components included in the SE Deluxe Package.
