New Electronic Stability Control System
The available Anti-Lock Brake System includes Traction Control that
automatically distributes torque to the wheels with the most traction when
conditions such as mud, gravel, snow and ice require it. This option for 2009
now adds Electronic Stability Control (ESC). This state-of-the-art system
constantly monitors road conditions and the driver's responses, then adjusts
engine torque and applies the ABS brakes to help keep all the wheels firmly
planted. ESC brings an added measure of handling confidence to the fun-to-drive
agility you'd expect in a Ford Focus.
Six Airbags
When it comes to passive safety protection, Ford Focus has you well covered. In
addition to the dual-stage driver and front seat passenger airbags, every Focus
comes with standard front seat-mounted side airbags as well as front and rear
seat side curtain airbags. That's a total of six airbags to enhance protection
in certain front or side impacts. Always be sure to wear your safety belt and
secure children in the rear seat.
Braking Performance
The Focus braking system features 10.8-inch vented discs up front and 8.0-inch
drums in the rear. The smooth and straight stopping action of Anti-lock Brakes
with Traction Control, available as an option on all models, now features a
state-of-the-art Electronic Stability Control System.
Tire Pressure Monitoring System
It's very important to check your tire pressure regularly to keep all four
inflated within the manufacturer's specified pressure range, because tire
pressure affects ride comfort, safety, and fuel economy. That's why all Focus
Sedan models come equipped with a standard Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS),
which alerts you when a tire is low.
Big Car Safety Features
A reinforced steel safety cage helps manage impact energy in a collision. Six
airbags come standard: dual-stage driver and front seat passenger airbags, front
seat-mounted side airbags, plus 1st- and 2nd-row side curtain airbags.* Optional
anti-lock brakes with traction control deliver smooth, straight stops, while the
standard Tire Pressure Monitoring System helps maintain safe and efficient
pressure levels. It's pretty evident Focus is one small car that's very big on
safety.
