NHTSA 5 Star Front and Side Ratings
Taurus has earned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's highest
5-star rating for not only the front crash test (driver and passenger) but also
the side crash test (front and rear outboard passengers).* That's 5-star
protection for the whole family.
*Star ratings are part of the U.S. Department of Transportation's Safercar.gov
program (www.safercar.gov).
IIHS Top Safety Pick
Only vehicles that earn a "Good" rating in all three of the Insurance Institute
of Highway Safety's (IIHS) tests are given top honors. The innovative vehicle
structure of Taurus, equipped with standard electronic stability control, made
it a unanimous "Top Safety Pick" of the IIHS. See complete test results at
www.iihs.org.
SPACE Architecture
SPACE Architecture™ stands for Ford's patented Side Protection And Cabin
Enhancement architecture. This advanced engineering feature utilizes advanced
crash force management techniques designed to help channel impact forces around
and away from the passenger cabin. It also provides a raised mounting point so
you can sit higher for a more commanding view of the road.
Air Bag Protection
Taurus provides as standard equipment the Safety Canopy™ System with rollover
sensor and side curtain airbags, the Personal Safety System® featuring
dual-stage front airbags* and other advanced technology features, plus front
seat side-impact airbags. Because compromising on safety is not an option.
*Always wear your safety belt and secure children in the rear seat.
FWD or AWD with Traction Control
Taurus with Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) comes equipped with standard Traction
Control system, which improves your grip on the road by limiting wheel spin. For
even greater traction, go with the available All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system, which
automatically distributes up to 100% of torque to the wheels with the most
traction when conditions such as mud, rain, gravel, snow and ice require it.
AdvanceTrac
Whether your Taurus is Front-Wheel Drive or All-Wheel Drive, the anxiety you'd
ordinarily feel when driving on slippery surfaces will be greatly reduced with
the knowledge that the standard AdvanceTrac® Electronic Stability Control System
is constantly at work monitoring road conditions and automatically responding to
them.
4-Wheel Independent Suspension
Taurus' four-wheel independent suspension with MacPherson strut front system and
multi-link rear design delivers outstanding ride comfort as well as directional
control. Hydrogen gas-pressurized monotube shocks dissipate heat more quickly
than twin-tube shocks, reducing the effects of possible overheating on rough
roads. Taurus is also equipped with a 4-wheel disc anti-lock brake system for
smooth, straight stops. Yes, you can set your expectations for ride and handling
quality very high in a Taurus sedan.
