Top Safety Pick
The beauty of the Edge goes beyond its exterior. At the heart of this crossover
is a reinforced steel cage, part of the structural design to help manage energy
in the event of a collision. Anti-lock brakes help deliver confident stopping
power. Edge is equipped with standard dual-stage front airbags in the Personal
Safety System® and side airbags for the driver and front passenger, plus Safety
Canopy® side-curtain airbags for outboard seated passengers in both rows. All
these features have helped earn the Edge a 2008 "Top Safety Pick" rating from
the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. What's more, Edge is equipped with
AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™ (RSC®) and offers available All-Wheel
Drive to help you avoid trouble in the first place. Be sure to always wear your
safety belt and secure children in the rear seat.
Safety Canopy with Roll Over Sensor
Ford Edge is equipped with a total of six airbags. dual-stage front airbags for
frontal protection, as well as front seat side airbags and side curtain airbags
in the Safety Canopy® system. To help you avoid an accident, Edge has four-wheel
disc anti-lock brakes and AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™. The
Insurance Institute for Highway Safety made Edge a "Top Safety Pick for 2008."

Personal Safety System
The Personal Safety System® is a suite of standard safety features that includes
dual-stage driver and front passenger airbags, a driver's seat position sensor,
front safety belt usage sensors, front safety belt pretensioners and energy
management retractors, a Front Passenger Sensing System, and a crash severity
sensor.
LATCH System
Edge features Lower Anchors and Tether anchors for CHildren (LATCH) - a set of
rigid metal anchor bars designed to work with LATCH-compatible child safety
seats. LATCH eliminates the need to use the vehicle's safety belts to install a
child safety seat. It provides a secure attachment.
SecuriLock Anti-Theft System
The SecuriLock® Passive Anti-Theft System is designed to prevent your engine
from starting unless the correct key is used. The electronically encoded
ignition key activates a specially designed transponder located inside the
vehicle. The system disarms whenever the correct key is inserted into the
ignition, and automatically re-arms when it's removed.
SOS Post Crash Alert System
The new SOS Post-Crash Alert System* is the latest addition to Ford Edge's
already long list of standard safety features. This post-accident distress
system continuously flashes the hazard lights and sounds the horn.
*SOS activates on airbag deployment or safety belt pretensioner activation. SOS
hardware may become damaged or the battery may lose power in a crash, which
could prevent operation. Not all crashes will activate an airbag or safety belt
pretensioner.
