Unsurpassed Fuel Economy
2009 Ford Escape is powered by a new 2.5L Duratec I-4 engine with advanced
features such as intake variable cam timing technology. It's teamed with a
5-speed manual transmission in the XLS Manual model and a new 6-speed automatic
in the XLS, XLT and Limited. The 2.5L Duratec produces higher power ratings than
its I-4 predecessor, with 171 horsepower and 171 lb.-ft. of torque. All this
power comes with fuel economy ratings that are unsurpassed in the small SUV
class.* So if you're looking for an SUV that delivers excellent economy as well
as responsive performance, the 2.5L Duratec in a Ford Escape is your way to go.
*Class is Small SUV. EPA-estimated 22 City/28 Hwy mpg with I-4 manual, FWD.
EPA-estimated 28 Hwy with I-4 automatic, FWD.
New 6 Speed Transmission
2009 Escape models with automatic transmission are equipped with a new 6-speed
gearbox. Its wide span of gear ratios across the six speeds provides responsive
acceleration at the low end and enhanced fuel economy* at the overdrive 6th
gear.
*EPA estimated 20 City/28 Hwy mpg, I4 automatic, FWD; 18 City/26 Hwy mpg, V6
automatic, FWD.
Big Towing Capacity
If towing a boat or camper is part of your active lifestyle, the 240-hp Duratec
30 3.0-liter V6 is the way to go - it gives Escape XLT and Limited models a big
towing capacity of up to 3,500 pounds when properly equipped.
Improved Handling
A big reason Ford Escape handles so well is the independent double lateral and
semi-trailing arm design of its rear suspension system. Each rear wheel operates
independently, so it can negotiate rough road conditions on its own terms. For
2009, Escape delivers improved ride, handling and quietness with a new 18.5mm
rear stabilizer bar and revised suspension tuning.
240-hp Duratec V6
Another great Escape performance option is the potent 240-hp 3.0L Duratec V6
teamed with an efficient new 6-speed automatic transmission. It cranks out 20%
more power than last year while also delivering improved highway fuel economy.*
What's more, when powered by the Duratec V6 and properly equipped with the
optional Class II Trailer Tow Package, an Escape XLT or Limited can tow up to
3,500 pounds.
*EPA-estimated 18 City/26 Hwy mpg, FWD.
