AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control
Explorer comes equipped with standard AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™
(RSC®). It's the only stability control system with gyroscopic sensors measuring
both vehicle yaw and roll motion. Corner too quickly or swerve to avoid an
object and RSC will selectively apply brake pressure and adjust engine power to
help keep you under control. Remember that even advanced technology cannot
overcome the laws of physics. It's always possible to lose control of a vehicle
due to inappropriate driver input for the conditions.
Trailer Sway Control
The new Trailer Sway Control feature works with the AdvanceTrac® with Roll
Stability Control™ (RSC®) System, using the sensor that measures yaw motion to
determine if the trailer is swaying. If necessary, Trailer Sway Control applies
precise braking or adjusted engine torque to help bring both vehicle and trailer
under control. Trailer Sway Control joins the already impressive list of
standard safety features on Ford Explorer for 2009.
Intelligent Safety System
Explorer's standard Intelligent Safety System™ lives up to its name. The
innovative system processes information from a suite of sophisticated sensors
and adjusts the performance of Explorer's adaptive load-limiting safety belt
retractors, driver- and front-passenger airbags, and adaptive steering column to
enhance protection in the event of certain frontal collisions.
Safety Canopy
The Safety Canopy® System with side curtain airbags is standard equipment on all
Explorer models. Along with adaptive front seat airbags and side airbags for the
driver and front passenger, the Safety Canopy® System provides comprehensive
airbag coverage.
5 Star Safety
Explorer has received NHTSA's 5-star crash test rating* for all four crash
seating positions (driver and right front passenger for frontal crash, and front
and rear seating positions for side-impact). Explorer helps protect you with its
standard Intelligent Safety System™ and standard front seat side airbags.
