SAFETY
Front Seat Side Impact and side Curtain Airbags
The New '09 Ford F-150 offers enhanced occupant protection with a host of
standard safety systems. In addition to front seat airbags, the enhanced
occupant protection with the Personal Safety System®, the New '09 F-150 provides
front side-impact airbags* and the Safety Canopy® System with its
state-of-the-art roll-fold technology. All six airbags are now standard
equipment on all F-150 models.
*Always wear your safety belts and secure children in the rear seat (SuperCab
and SuperCrew).
Personal Safety System
Safety systems inside the New '09 F-150 work together to provide an enhanced
level of protection. During certain frontal collisions, the standard Personal
Safety System® uses the electronic crash-severity sensor, a restraint-control
module, a driver's seat-position sensor, dual-stage front airbags,* a
front-passenger sensing system, safety-belt pretensioners, safety belt
energy-management retractors and front outboard safety-belt usage sensors to
help protect the driver and front-seat passenger.
*Always wear your safety belts and secure children in the rear seat (SuperCab
and SuperCrew).
High-Strength Steel Safety Cage
For additional crash protection, the New '09 F-150 safety cage is smarter and
stronger than ever before and features the industry's first usage of advanced
hydroformed ultra-high-strength steel. Additionally, continuous tubes run from
the A-pillar base through the roof rail to form a safety cage around the
occupants of the truck, and dual hydroformed front tubes, located on either side
of the engine bay, are shaped to absorb impacts.
AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control
The New '09 F-150 comes equipped with standard AdvanceTrac® with
Roll Stability Control™ (RSC®).* This advanced technology uses a combination of
reduced engine power and selective wheel braking to help the driver maintain
control. Corner too quickly or swerve to avoid an object and RSC® will
automatically use its industry-exclusive gyroscopic sensor to measure vehicle
roll, then apply the proper response to help keep you under control.
*Remember, even advanced technology cannot overcome the laws of physics. It's
always possible to lose control of a vehicle due to inappropriate driver input
for the conditions.
Rear View Camera
To aid the driver while in reverse, the available Rear View camera* uses a
camera mounted in the tailgate to produce a real-time visual display in the
interior rearview mirror. When the camera is ordered with the available
voice-activated Navigation System, the visual is displayed on the Navigation
System's screen.
*Always check entire surroundings before backing up.
