Tough and Economical
At 21 miles per gallon in the city and 26 on the highway*, Ford Ranger will help
you get where you're going with some money left in your pocket to spend when you
arrive. *EPA-estimated 21 city/26 hwy mpg with 2WD 2.3L I4 engine and 5-speed
manual transmission.
Shift on the Fly 4 Wheel Drive
An electronic shift-on-the-fly transfer case is standard equipment with Ranger
4x4 models, allowing an easy and quick 4WD engagement that doesn't require
stopping the vehicle.
A Suspension to Match the Intention
Ranger's independent short/long arm front suspension with stabilizer bar keeps
the ride smooth under normal driving conditions for XL and XLT 4x2. But for
rougher going, a front torsion bar is substituted on XL and XLT 4x4; select
SPORT and FX4, vehicles more likely to off-road it. The 4x4s also get
jolt-absorbing heavy-duty gas shocks.
Efficient Transmissions
Both Ranger transmission choices, manual and automatic, have an overdrive 5th
gear that helps conserve fuel while cruising at highway speeds. Teamed with the
efficient standard 2.3L I-4 engine, these transmissions play a big part in
achieving Ranger's unsurpassed fuel economy (other Ford Motor Company vehicles
excluded).
